Applying For A British Passport

It is necessary to have a British nationality in order to apply for or hold a British passport.

Even with a British nationality it is not guaranteed that you will get a British passport and your existing passport may also be taken from you in the case that:

1. You are a crime suspect and an arrest warrant has been issued
2. A court order restricts you from travel
3. You are on bail, and cannot leave the country during this time
4. You have been brought back to the UK on the governments expense and you have not repaid your expense
5. You are facing an order by the European Union or United Nations which restricts your travel

The applicants’ eligibility and entitlement to the British passport is considered upon the time of application. The government also holds the right to withdraw or cancel a British passport at any time.

UK local applicants can also apply physically through the local post office and also pay via post.
